Testing AIR Applications on Linux

I tried for a while to get the actual Adobe AIR runtime installed via wine on Linux. But I wasn’t able to get it to work. Then I realized that I don’t really need the whole runtime to just test my AIR applications. All I need is ADL – the testing tool for AIR applications. So I gave it a try on a Salesforce.com project I’m working on:

jamesw@dos:~/projects/mavericks/examples/air/AccountTracker/bin$ wine ~/flex_sdk-3_b1/bin/adl.exe salesforceTest-app.xml

And to my total surprise the AIR application loaded and ran on Linux! Sweet!

  • Good tip James. I’ve been meaning to tool around with AIR but only have Linux machines at the house. Thanks.

  • Hi James,

ADL on linux works fine for me, as long as there is no LocalConnection. I’m using a custom logger I built for AIR, and having somme issues with ntlm_auth(not found or not the right version) and winsock (SIO_ADDRESS_LIST_CHANGE), have you experienced this kind or problems ?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Cédric,

I’m having those same problems. Maybe we could get a Wine expert to take a look at it.

  • Hi James,

No problem for me, I’ll may post a topic

  • Oups, pressing Enter too fast ^^

I said I could post a topic on the wine forum, I searched for a while on these errors and it seems that many games return the same results, there will probably some workaround for that.

Otoh A friend show me that : http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=5842

Have you heard anything about that, it could be a good alternative when it will work.

Thanks so much! I was stoked to hear that AIR installed and ran on Linux and that even Flex Builder could install on Linux, but why can’t Flex Builder RUN AIR APPLICATIONS!?

  • Flex Builder on Linux can run AIR applications fine for me. Are you getting an error message?
