    Hi Cote,

Not yet, but if you hook me up with the JUG leader I can hopefully get to Austin! I’ve never been to Austin so I’d love to go! And seeing you would be a bonus. :)

As an Aggie alum I used to get over to Austin frequently in my college years. Being in the Corps of Cadets, had to go over and march through downtown Austin before the big games between A&M and UT. Even under those hostile circumstances Austin was always a great place to visit. The two most interesting cities in Texas worth seeing are Austin and San Antonio.

Cote, you should take James to that Mexican restaurant that has those huge authentic wooden doors that came off of some mission or old ranch house. They have a gourmet mole sauce with something like 21 ingredients combined with very interesting twinge of the primary ingredient of chocolate. There is really no other place in the country to get gourmet Mexican food than Austin – the Mexican food here in the Pacific NW just utterly sucks by comparison.

That downtown swimming pool park built around a natural spring is neat – though suppose the middle of a hot summer would be a better time to check it out. The hill country all around Austin is nice there’s a huge chain of lakes and Lake Travis is relatively close by.

And if you go driving around in the back roads, chances are you’ll come across a 6 foot rattle snake sunning itself on the road. And there are feral hogs out in the dense brush.

Of course the real reason to go to Austin is for the music scene. Austin (and Texas in general) has it’s own world of stars that make the circuit. In some respects Texas is still a country within a country.
